Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is a famous royal residence located in the City of Westminster, London, United Kingdom. It was originally a townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703, known as Buckingham House. The exact cost of the palace's construction is unknown, as it underwent numerous alterations and expansions over the years.

In 1761, King George III acquired the property as a private residence for his wife, Queen Charlotte. Over the years, various additions and renovations were, thus expanding it into a grand palace. The original Buckingham House was designed by the architect William Winde. John Nash was responsible for the major renovations and expansions carried out during the early 19th century, including the addition of the iconic central balcony.
In 1837, during the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace became the official residence of the British monarchy. It has since served as the primary London residence of successive British sovereigns. The palace is often used for official events, receptions, and state functions, as well as being the location for the famous Changing of Guard ceremony.
